Indian festivals and celebrations | Raksha Bandhan traditional festival in India

Raksha Bandhan is another most popular traditional festival in our Indian festivals and celebrations.  Raksha Bandhan means “ the bond of protection, care, pray for a long-life”. Brother gives a promise to his sister for safe her from any unavoidable situation of life. On this day sisters of all ages tie the rakhi around the wrists of their brothers and wish their brother's long & prospers life. This festival never maintains any religion, caste or community. Among women and men who are not blood relatives to keeps this tradition also. All the people of our country has celebrated this great traditional festival. It observed in the month of Shraavana which typically falls in August.


Raksha Bandhan is another most popular traditional festival in our Indian festivals and celebrations.

This day is very special for West Bengal & Odisha. These two states are very famous for Indian festivals and celebrations. This day has celebrated as Jhulan Purnima. Puja and prayers of Lord Krishna and Radha are performed. All the Sisters tie rakhi to her brothers and wish immortality. Schools, Colleges and other educational centers, Political parties, offices, friends have celebrated this day with a new hope for a good relationship.
Raksha Bandhan Maharashtra celebrates as a “coconut day festival”(Narali Poornima). The fishermen of the coastal state give a prayer to the Hindu God of the sea "Lord Varuna". They throw the coconuts into the sea as offerings to Lord Varuna. Maharashtra state is especially familiar for "Ganesh Puja".In the world, Ganesh festival of Maharashtra is very famous among all other Indian festivals and celebrations.   
Raksha Bandhan festival has historical significant also. During the British period, British wants divide Bengal but “Biswa Kabi” Rabindranath Tagore arranged a ceremony to celebrate Raksha Bandhan to strengthen the bond of love and togetherness between Hindus and Muslims of Bengal and encourage them to together protest the British empire. We continue to follow this tradition of tie rakhis to our neighbors and close friends.
There was another historical fact, Alexander the Great invaded India but king Porus did the deeply protest against on him. Alexander’s wife Roxana sent a sacred thread to Porus and request him not to harm her husband in the battle. Porus gave full respect to Rakhi and when Porus saw the rakhi on his own wrist, he restrained himself from Alexander in this battle of the Hydaspes.
All the community in India who deeply respect this festival and aware of it’s historical and social importance also. People can't see anywhere in the world other than India, such a great Raksha  Bandhan festival which is one of the most popular Indian festivals and celebrations for makes brotherhood, unity, courage, peace & happiness in every Indian's life.
